NEIL YOUNG is planning to bring in a right-sided midfielder ahead of this weekend’s trip to Trafford.
The Chester boss is keen to secure the services of a winger who can provide Blues strikers with plenty of ammunition after watching his side concede a two-goal lead in Monday’s bitterly disappointing 2-2 home draw against Warrington.
Young has made no secret of his aim to find a replacement for Antoni Sarcevic who impressed during a loan spell before being recalled to Crewe Alexandra.
He said: “I’m hopeful of signing a winger before our trip to Trafford this weekend because I feel we need a right-sided midfielder.
“Antoni Sarcevic offered us a lot of quality during his time at Chester, but he’s a Football League player and he’s now returned to Crewe.
“I’m looking to bring in a player to our level from either the Conference or Conference North, but it’s always difficult to find a player who is willing to drop down two or three divisions.
“I’ve been working morning, noon and night in a bid to bring someone to Chester who I think will make a difference, and my talks have included making contact with a number of Football League clubs, but if I can’t bring in a winger then I’ll look at a change in our system.
“Our last four games have been very disappointing, but people must not forget that we’re still at the top of the league table and we’re doing all we can as a part-time football club to maintain our push for promotion.
“I intend to see the squad continuing to work hard and getting the club back to winning ways, and I hope we are now over a bit of a blip in our season.”
Young, who is planning to terminate defender Danny Meadowcroft’s contract by mutual consent to free up some of his budget to allow him to bring in a winger, admitted he was now happy with his back four options.
He said: “Danny Meadowcroft has spent a loan spell this season at Bamber Bridge and I know a few clubs have been showing an interest in him.
“I’m hoping that his Chester contract can be terminated by mutual consent which would help free up some of my budget and allow me to bring in a winger before our trip to Trafford on Saturday.
“I’m happy with my defensive options now that we’ve brought in Michael Taylor alongside George Horan, Carl Ruffer, Michael Aspin, Stuart Graves, Greg Stones, and Chris Williams.
“And our forward options are okay now that we’ve brought in James McCarthy and Michael Clarke, alongside Michael Wilde and Kyle Wilson.”
In Chester have rearranged their home matches against Durham City and Salford City.
The match against Durham at the Exacta Stadium will now take place on Saturday, February 26, (3pm), which means that the match against Salford City, also at the Exacta Stadium, will now take place on Wednesday, March 9, (7.45pm).
