YOUNG rowers are being praised after returning from a national rowing competition with top prizes.
The King’s School, based in Wrexham Road, had three crews qualify for the North West Team, which took on 11 other regional teams in the UK.
The competition took place over a 1,500 metre course in Nottingham. Each crew from the Chester school came home with a medal.
Boys’ Under-14 Quad, including students Toby Miller, Niall Barrow, Alec Davies, Mike Hamilton and Oliver Bird, came in third place winning bronze medals.
Girls’ Under-14 Quad won the silver medals. The team included Henrietta Green, Alice Carr, Eleanor Barnard, Hayley Milner and Pippa Higgins.
Meanwhile, Boys’ Under-16 Eights won silver medals in the last race of the day. That crew included pupils Harry Ashworth, Will Miller, John Marsden, Freddy Hill, Alex Constantinou, David Cartmell, Tom Stables, Charlie Collicutt and Harry Brightmore.
School spokesman Vicky Titmuss said: “King’s led the race before losing out by a canvas to arch-rivals Hampton School.”
