NEIL YOUNG will welcome three trialists to tomorrow night’s first pre-season training session.

The Chester boss revealed that he was happy with the squad he had assembled ahead of the Conference North campaign.

But Young is keen to take a look at a few other players who are likely to feature in the Blues 10 pre-season friendly fixtures before Chester kick off their league season on Saturday, August 18.

“I am very happy with what I have got in the squad at the minute, but I have invited two or three players to our training sessions as trialists,” Young said.

“The players I am talking about are either currently at other clubs or out of contract and I would like to see them coming to us to enjoy their football with the shackles off and show me what they can do.

“Players like striker Jordan Connerton from Crewe will be joining us for the sessions and I’m looking forward to seeing him working with the squad.”

Young, who has centre forward Marc Williams as well as new signings Adam Proudlock and Nathan Jarman competing for starting roles in Chester’s attack, insisted that he could never have enough options in his front line.

He added: “If Jordan impresses me in pre-season and there is an opportunity to take him on loan from Crewe then I will if required.

“I don’t think any club can have enough centre forwards or attacking players scoring plenty of goals.

“There is absolutely no pressure on Jordan, but I would like to think he can continue to score goals like he was doing last season while on loan at Nantwich Town and Kendal Town.

“Jordan and the other lads who are on trial like what they have seen happening at Chester after our two successive title-winning campaigns and if they do well while here then they could win a place in the squad.”

Looking ahead to the start of Chester’s pre-season training sessions tomorrow, Young said: “It will be good to get back in the routine with some new faces on board and seeing them getting through a lot of hard work.

“I know that a lot of people are tipping Chester as favourites to win the Conference North title, but I don’t take much notice of pre-season odds.

“We will be striving to do the best we can in a tough division against the likes of Halifax, Guiseley, Altrincham, Boston United and Gainsborough Trinity.

“I’m just hoping that we can go into the season with a clean bill of health and full of confidence.”
