PLANS for a major £15.5m development which includes 135 new homes for families and the elderly across Chester have been announced.
The important development programme is being delivered by Chester & District Housing Trust (CDHT), a lead developer partner of the Homes and Communities Agency and a major developer across Cheshire West.
The development will include canal side city centre apartments at Suffolk House, on Francis Street, Newtown and private sales for the elderly at Hoole House on Willow Crescent, Hoole.
The development follows the completion of a £12 million redevelopment at Treborth Road, Blacon, which has included homes for sale and rent, as well as regeneration of community facilities and estate infrastructure.
As part of the new development plans, more family homes will be developed at Kings Lea House, Heather Court, Boughton and Rake Way, Saughall, with all schemes underpinning CDHT’s commitment to innovation, quality and sustainability by being built to the demanding Eco-Code Level 3 standard.
Paul Knight, CDHT director of neighbourhoods and regeneration, said: “These developments are significant for the area, delivering very high standard city centre living whilst we continue to feel the effects of the recession across the North West.
“These commercial projects make CDHT one of the biggest developers in the area. We have worked closely with stakeholders, including residents and Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) and supporting local businesses is a key driver during these tough economic times. These are hugely successful mixed use schemes, delivering sustainable communities that signal our intent to continue to regenerate for the benefit of Chester and beyond.”
The development at Hoole House provides 24 high specification apartments to rent with a further 12 on a shared ownership basis with the much anticipated sales expected to be launched this summer.
Wain House will provide 27 two-bed and 10 one-bed homes for rent, with both Wain House and Hoole House due to be completed by early 2011. The development at Suffolk House is due to be launched this summer and will provide 32 city centre apartments and Kings Lea House will deliver 30 apartments, 27 two-bed and three one-beds by early Spring 2011.
