THE University of Chester is set to unveil ambitious plans for new student accommodation.

Members of the public are being invited to attend a series of open events outlining the university’s plans for the development at its main Parkgate Road campus.

The proposals, if approved, would accommodate 200 existing students in purpose-built, self-contained facilities, designed to meet anticipated demand.

More details will be available after March 11.

Professor Tim Wheeler, the university’s vice-chancellor, said: “There has been much speculation and confusion about student accommodation in Chester over recent weeks, but this is the only scheme under current consideration which involves the university in any way.

“We have spoken to community representatives about our proposal and are now sharing our vision with local residents and other interested parties before we submit a planning application to Cheshire West and Chester Council.”

Drop-in information sessions for the public will take place in the Binks Building, at the centre of the main campus on Parkgate Road, on Friday, March 11 from 3pm to 7pm and Saturday, March 12 from 10am to 2pm.

Architects’ drawings will be on display, together with a computerised fly-though visualisation and a 3D model to illustrate the proposed scheme.
