FOOTBALL fans are being urged to think pink and help support the Breast Cancer Appeal when they cheer on Chester FC.

The club has teamed up with the fundraising department at the Countess of Chester Hospital in order to raise money for their Breast Care Unit at their home match with Lancaster FC on Saturday, October 23

Janet Ratcliffe, fundraising manager at the Countess of Chester Hospital, said: “I think this is a fantastic idea and we are extremely grateful to Chester FC for thinking about supporting our Breast Care Unit in this innovative way.

“Tickets are on sale at the hospital in both the fundraising office and the Breast Care Unit and we are hoping that many of our staff and patients will dig out their brightest pink clothes and accessories and come along to cheer on the team while helping us to raise funds for the unit.”

During the run up to the match it will be possible for Chester FC fans to buy their own ‘Think Pink’ T-shirts from the club shop at The Exacta Stadium. Similar T-shirts will be worn by the players during their pre-match warm up and will be signed and auctioned off to fans in the Blues Bar after the match to raise yet more money for the cause.

Blues manager Neil Young and some of his team are also hoping to make a visit to Chester’s Breast Care Unit in order to raise awareness of the important work being undertaken there.

On the day itself, the club are encouraging all fans to come along wearing something pink and there will be various other pink-themed events taking place. The Blues Bar will turn pink for the day and will serve a special pink drinks menu while there will be a half-time raffle.

Volunteers from the hospital fundraising department will be selling raffle tickets in the build up to the game as well as undertaking a bucket collection.

On the pitch, pink street dancers will entertain the crowd and there will be a special edition ‘Think Pink’ programme available, priced at £3 with 50p from every copy being donated to the Breast Care Unit. This will include a four-page merchandise catalogue along with an order form for the 125th anniversary shirt.

Lily Hymes, of Chester FC said: “The response so far has been great. We’d love it if everyone spread the word and brought along friends, partners and children to support this worthwhile event.

“Chester FC is a community club and many members of our community have been affected by breast cancer. We’d like to raise as much money as possible for the Breast Care Unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital, so come down on October 23 and don’t forget to think pink!”

The Think Pink match – Chester vs Lancaster City - will kick off at 3pm and normal ticket prices will apply.
