BANK staff are being praised after they managed to raise more than £4,000 for people suffering from cancer.

Volunteers from Chester-based Bank of America Europe Card Services took part in a range of fundraising drives in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The money will now help fund the building of a new information centre in Chester.
Paul Truesdale, one of Bank of America's volunteers, said: "There were 12 of us who took up the challenge of turning £60 into £600, but we came up with a number of good ideas and ended up raising nearly £2,000.

"Bank of America has an initiative where money raised for charity through staff volunteer efforts can be bank-matched.

"It's a fantastic scheme and by using this support funding we were able to give almost £4,000 to the charity."

The volunteers' fundraising ideas ranged from on-site photo-shoots, the selling of ice creams and the raffling of a brand new iPad, all over the course of a two-month period.

Aimee Scally, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support said: "We are so grateful to the volunteers from Bank of America Europe Card Services for all their fundraising activities.

"£4,000 is a fantastic amount and all the money will be staying in the North West to help support people who have been affected by cancer.

"These Bank of America volunteers have raised more than £30,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support over the last three years, helping us to provide services such as the new Macmillan Information Centre that will be built within the next year at The Countess of Chester Hospital."
