LARGER-than-life footballer Robbie Savage returned to his hometown yesterday and was greeted by dozens of fans at a bookshop.
The Derby County midfielder visited Waterstone’s in Wrexham town centre to sign copies of his autobiography.
Nurse Caroline Mellor took the day off work and travelled from Sale in Manchester to see her footballing idol.
“I am a massive fan and follow him wherever he goes,” she said.
“I have loved him since he was at United, I love his hair, I love the way he plays football.
“I would like to marry him. My nickname is Robbie at work.”
Another huge fan of Robbie’s at the signing was Liz Moore who travelled all the way from Derby.
She said: “He’s such a brilliant player, it was great to have a bit of a chat with him here.”
Owen Harrison, of Little Acton, went along to get a copy of the autobiography.
He said: “There were lots of people there to meet Robbie and he came across as a good character – friendly and chatty with everyone he met.”
Yesterday we reported how Robbie revealed he would one day like to manage Wrexham FC – but stressed he did not want to take over from current boss Dean Saunders.
