A VULNERABLE man from Chester had to be rescued by police helicopter after being found collapsed on the roadside.

The drama took place in the gateway of a field off Parkgate Road, Saughall, at about 6pm on Saturday after reports a 55-year-old man had gone missing.

The helicopter had been dispatched to help officers on the ground conduct their search of the man, who was suffering from Parkinson’s Disease and had not been seen for some hours. He also had no medication with him, increasing the concerns of those conducting the search.

Paramedics who were flying in the helicopter spotted the man within minutes, after he had collapsed in a place where he was not visible to officers on the ground.

Police spokesman Jacqui Hanson said: “Using the camera equipment on board, the police helicopter crew could clearly determine that the man was in a frail state, and made the decision to land the helicopter in the field next to where he was and make a full assessment of his condition.

“The helicopter crew are trained North West Ambulance first responders and upon examining the man found him to be dehydrated and weak.
