CHESTER produced another flawless pre-season performance at home to Premiership club Wigan Athletic.
The Blues delivered an impressive display as they kept on track for an eagerly anticipated league campaign starting later this month.
Goals from Michael Wilde, Ollie Ryan, Rob Hopley, and George Horan secured Chester a convincing victory.
Birkenhead-born Blues striker Wilde's 31st minute headed goal separated the sides at the break.
Wilde netted his third goal in two games as Chester looked untroubled against a young Wigan Athletic outfit.
Blues boss Neil Young made a few changes to the side that had started against Tranmere Rovers and triumphed 2-1 earlier in the week.
Attacking midfielder Ollie Ryan supported the striking pair of Adriano Rigoglioso and Wilde who had scored both Chester's goals against Tranmere.
The Blues took control of the contest as early as the second minute when former Lincoln City striker Ryan latched onto a neat throughball, but his attempt to prod the ball beyond visiting keeper Lee Nicholls failed as the Wigan keeper cleared the danger with his feet.
Left winger Chris Williams created the next opportunity in the fourth minute, beating Joe Holt to the ball on the edge of the area and teeing himself up for a shot which deflected wide of the left post.
Williams, who looked bright and lively whenever the Blues ventured forward, attempted an ambitious shot from the left flank a minute later which flew wide of the target.
Rigoglioso then tried his luck from 25 yards in the 13th minute, but his effort dipped over the bar.
Right winger Mark Peers hoisted a free kick into the danger area in the 23rd minute as Chester continued to turn the screw, and his cross was dropped by Nicholls before defender Mike Gervin cleared.
Chester deservedly broke the deadlock in the 31st minute when Williams' right-sided corner was headed by Wilde into the bottom left corner of the net.
Greg Stones maintained Chester's momentum four minutes later when he steered a close range header narrowly wide of the mark from another inch perfect corner from Williams.
Rigoglioso took over the left-sided corner duty in the 34th minute and saw his cross only half-cleared before returning the ball into the box where Peers bravely launched himself towards the ball and thumped his effort over the bar.
Adam Buxton punctuated Chester's persistent raids in the 36th minute when his low 20 yard strike was easily gathered by Blues' untroubled and untested keeper Chris Oldfield.
Williams regained normal service for the Blues in the 37th minute with a determined run along the left flank, but his centre was missed by both Stuart Graves and Wilde and the ball ran harmlessly out of play.
Rigoglioso concluded the entertaining half with a spectacular 40 yard shot which beat Wigan substitute keeper Josh Welsby before crashing against the bar.
Wilde was presented with the first scoring opportunity seven minutes after the break, smashing a close range effort wide of the right post after Williams had controlled and passed from Ryan's precision cross.
Chester doubled their advantage in the 54th minute when Ryan found the bottom left corner of the net from 15 yards after a neat build up.
Michael Aspin sparked the next attack, but his cross intended for substitute Mark Connolly, was claimed by Welsby who needed treatment after colliding with Connolly.
Rob Hopley and Danny Meadowcroft replaced Ryan and Ruffer in a double substitution on the hour mark as Chester continued to impress.
Iain Howard, who had replaced Peers four minutes earlier, hoisted a deep left wing cross into the area in the 64th minute which Wilde headed over from close range.
Hopley then secured a 3-0 lead for the Blues in the 68th minute when he headed into the roof of the net from Williams' right sided corner kick.
And George Horan made it 4-0 in the 72nd minute when he connected with a Howard left wing cross and looped his header over Welsby to find the target.
