A CHESTER Hospice has welcomed a £500 funding boost thanks to staff at Vauxhall Motors, Ellesmere Port.
Members of the Vauxhall Motors Employee Charity Fund visited the Backford based Hospice to present them with the donated cheque.
The Hospice of the Good Shepherd is a local charity that provides highly specialised palliative care for people living with advanced diseases from the communities of Chester, Deeside, Ellesmere Port and Rural Cheshire.
The Vauxhall Motors Employee Charity Fund fund was established in 1974 to help support the local community and the Hospice of the Good Shepherd is just one of the charities that the employees are always eager to support.
Recognising the fantastic work that the Hospice does for the local community, the fund gave their generous donation to enable them to purchase a television and wall bracket for their Nintendo Wii Fit.
The Nintendo Wii Fit will be used in the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic at the Hospice as a means of improving patient’s balance and core strength, as well as for social enjoyment. The Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic focuses on improving the patients’ mobility and independence to enable them to eventually go home.
Tracey Davies, Link Nurse to the In-patients, at the Hospice of the Good Shepherd said: “We now accept all life threatening conditions at the Hospice, however, it is lovely to see the progress patients make in the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic, especially when we are able to send patients home.”
Jayne Hill, Treasurer, says: “It was lovely to visit the facilities the Hospice of the Good Shepherd has in Backford. You can clearly see how well looked after the patients are and how enthusiastic the nurses are when carrying out their duties. It has been a privilege for the fund to help the hospice improve their facilities.”
