MORE than 70 workers at Chester-based Bank of America Europe Card Services have successfully completed NVQ and apprenticeship training courses delivered by West Cheshire College.

The Retail and Lending Advanced Financial Apprenticeship course – the first of its kind in the UK, covers key areas such as numeracy and literacy skills and nine employees became the first to graduate from the scheme.

A further 62 associates completed nationally recognised NVQ courses this year, taking the total number of NVQ graduates at the company to more than 300 since the initiative began in 2007. Employees gathered to celebrate with a special lunch.

Karen Gresty, head of learning for Bank of America Europe card services, said: “We are continually looking at new ways to enhance the learning experience and professional development of our employees. We will continue to invest in pioneering apprenticeships and professional qualifications for our diverse workforce.

“Our associates are the cornerstone of our business and by providing them with the best available education we can ensure our continued success.”
The NVQ courses have been delivered at the company by West Cheshire College for the last three years and include areas such as customer service, business and administration, team leading and management.

Helen Nellist, assistant principal at West Cheshire College, added: “We are delighted that such an important employer in the local area is leading from the front and clearly demonstrating its commitment to investing in its people. The NVQ courses are taken by employees alongside their day-to-day roles within the bank, allowing them to obtain a nationally recognised qualification.”
