FOUR pupils from a Chester school are being praised after taking part in a regional book contest.
The King's School Year Seven students successfully beat more than 30 other schools from across the borough in the Cheshire Schools' Book Quiz. This was the first year the Wrexham Road school took part in the competition, which is open to all schools across the region, with heats taking place in each school.
The students who took part in the challenge were Catriona Hogg, 12, of Chester, Erin Hollingworth, 12, of Chester, Adam Sawney, 12, of Penyffordd and Alex Tan, 12, of Crewe.
School spokesman Vicky Titmuss said: "This is a remarkable achievement for these four pupils. It was a very close and exciting final, which King’s managed to clinch right at the end through great use of the buzzer. They have shown not only that they are avid readers, but that they are capable of retaining detailed information about the books they read."
Questions were based on six set books and on reading in general.
The team qualified as one of the top four schools to take part in the live final at the St Mary’s Centre in Chester in May. They were up against Merchant Taylors, Crosby (Girls), St Thomas More RC School and Queen’s. The pupils were awarded with book tokens and a cup for the school.
