CHESTER ZOO visitors have been encouraged to go green with the launch of a new travel initiative.

The Green Travel Plan gives visitors a chance to learn about alternative travel options to get to the Upton-by-Chester based zoo.

The zoo-based event was supported by a host of rail, bus and cycling companies who have provided literature, including timetables and route information.

The zoo’s travel plan co-ordinator, Kim Halliday, said: “The Green Travel Plan working group actively promotes different initiatives to our colleagues within the zoo.

“These initiatives have been very successful, largely because of strong staff awareness already for environmental concerns and also the support of the zoo management team who are committed to tackling transport issues and minimising our carbon footprint.

“We have updated our travel web pages to reflect the priority given to sustainable transport, and to make our guests aware, when planning their visit, of the range of public transport options available.”

The zoo also runs Tiger - a free shuttle bus from Chester Station for rail passengers.
