WREXHAM Council’s grand plan to build more affordable homes across the county continues as 11 more planning applications go before councillors next week.
A total of 23 areas across the borough have been earmarked for development, with 250 homes set to be built.
On Monday, 11 specific parcels of land could be granted outline planning permission by councillors to be developed upon.
Opposition to some of the proposals has come from certain community councils and local members.
Councillors will make decisions on specific applications in Gwenfro and Rubery Way, both in Caia Park; Whalleys Way in Acrefair; Bro Gwilym, Cefn Mawr; Tabor Hill, Coedpoeth; High Street and Bonc Wen, both in Rhos; Eleventh Avenue, Llay; Colliery Road, Tanyfron; Wheatsheaf Lane, Gwersyllt and Brynycabanau Road, Hightown.
Providing more affordable homes across the county borough has been identified as one of the council’s main corporate priorities.
But a number of letters of objection have been received to specific sites from residents and community councils.
Chief economic development officer Steve Bayley said: “The council is committed to trying to increase the availability of affordable homes across the county borough.”
The council is working closely with the Welsh Assembly Government on the project and says it will be seeking “reputable” builders and registered social landlords as partners to develop the sites.
At its last meeting in May, Wrexham Council’s planning committee granted outline planning permission for four separate developments.
