RESIDENTS at Chester’s latest eco-friendly affordable housing scheme have been welcomed into their new homes.

The first residents have been officially welcomed to the eco-friendly affordable housing at Acer Court, on Sycamore Road, Lache.

Eight three-bedroom houses have been developed by housing association Guinness Northern Counties in partnership with building contractors Seddon.

A welcome celebration was held earlier this month where Guinness Northern Counties’ chief executive Carol Matthews presented a bouquet of flowers to resident Tracey Graham, who moved into her new home at  Acer Court back in February.

Like those of her neighbours, Tracey’s new home achieved level three of the code for sustainable homes and includes eco-friendly features such as solar panelled roofs and rainwater harvesting systems which radically reduce  running costs.
Tracey said: “The house is lovely and warm. My last home was so damp the children and I all had to share a bedroom. I can’t believe how much space we all have.”

An Acer tree, supplied by Guinness Northern Counties and Seddon, was planted to commemorate the completion of the scheme.

Carol Matthews said: “This is Guinness Northern Counties’ first new scheme in the Chester area and we’re delighted to be here, welcoming the new residents to these lovely homes.

“I’d like to thank our partners, Seddon, for helping to make this scheme a reality and to Chester and District Housing Trust for their help in letting the homes. I would also like to acknowledge the very welcome grant input from the Homes and Communities Agency that helps us deliver these much needed affordable homes.”

The £1.3m scheme was completed in January, with grant funding of £506,784 from the Homes and Communities Agency, the national housing and regeneration agency for England.
