Cheshire pupils aim higher on a trip to Durham and the city’s university.

SEVENTY-FIVE pupils from across Cheshire and Warrington got a taste of student life when they enjoyed an overnight visit to Durham University.

Staying at St Chad’s College, the Year 10/11 pupils from Queen’s Park High School in Chester, Sir William Stanier Community School and William Beamont Community High School, both Warrington, and The University Church of England Academy North and South Campus, Ellesmere Port, took part in several events over two days, aimed at inspiring them to apply to the top universities across the country.

The sessions were led by students ambassadors from the university and included a tour of the campus, a critical thinking workshop and a workshop looking at university life where the pupils took part in an interactive session with the student ambassadors.

During the evening the pupils were given a guided ghost tour around Durham and took part in some fun activities based on student life.

This event is part of an ongoing programme between Aimhigher Cheshire and Warrington and Durham University and to date more than 1,000 pupils have benefited from this experience.

Aimhigher Schools development officer, Matthew Williams, said: “This partnership enables us to bring pupils from our schools to experience student life at one of the top universities in the country.

“The pupils will now have a greater understanding of university life and the opportunities it can provide for them in the future.”
