A CHARITY is calling on punters to don their hats and glad rags and join in helping to raise funds for vital cancer research.

Clatterbridge Cancer Research is the official race charity on prestigious cup day at the Chester Racecourse on Wednesday, May 5, and has tables available with a prime view of the winning post.

Racegoers will be greeted with a champagne reception, followed by a four-course lunch, afternoon tea and complimentary bar throughout the day.

Independent charities like Clatterbridge Cancer Research, which receives no government funding, have a central role to play in improving outcomes for patients across the region.

Clatterbridge Cancer Research does this by funding world class research into the genetic aspects behind the causes of cancer and needs more than £2 million each year to sustain its current work - £5,500 each day needed to support its team of scientists, clinical trials nurses, their premises and equipment such as the genome reader.

Clatterbridge Cancer Research chief executive Jane Simpson said: “Clatterbridge Cancer Research has been at the forefront of pioneering research into the causes of cancer for the last 30 years.

“We would be delighted if people would join us for what is guaranteed to be a fun-filled day to help us raise funds necessary to continue our important work.”

Tables of 10 are available at the Chester Races for £3,500 or £350 per person which includes admission, the champagne reception, four course lunch, afternoon tea and complimentary bar.

Also included is a race card, Tote betting facilities, television viewing, a copy of Racing newspaper and free car parking is also provided.

The tables are situated in the charity’s exclusive Private Box on the top floor of the Leverhulme Stand with its own balcony and prime view of all the action.

The opening race, the Manor House Lily Agnes Stakes, kicks off at 1.45pm sharp followed later in the day by the historic totesport.com Chester Cup at 2.45pm and the Clatterbridge Cancer Research Handicap Stakes at 3.15pm.
