POETS, musicians and comedians will come together in Chester to raise money for people caught up in the Haiti earthquake disaster.

Organisers of the multi-performance evening hope to raise hundreds of pounds for the appeal, which has helped to house and feed Haitians whose lives were turned upside down in January by the quake.

The evening, which will feature band Electric Toadstool, Re-Act performance group, singer Harriett Jones and a host of Chester poets and comedians, will be held at Hamilton Street Methodist Church Hall, Hoole, Chester on Saturday, March 13, from 7.30pm.

All the proceeds from the event will be given to Blacon High School pupil Connor Butler, who started a fundraising mission as part of his school’s sponsored ‘own clothes day’.

Fifteen-year-old Connor raised more than £200 for the Haiti appeal after dressing in his full Army cadet gear for the school-based event.

The kind-hearted teenager raised the funds to show his admiration and respect for soldiers who had risked their lives to help the people of Haiti during and after the disaster and to help the devastated country.

Organiser Pam Moyel said: “I read the article about Connor in the Chester Standard newspaper and thought that he was such a nice lad doing such a nice thing – that it was his fund that we would like to help.

“It is great to see young people getting involved in charity and Connor is a great example to many young people.”
