A SPECIAL sensory awareness day will be held at Chester Zoo later this month.

There will be four similar days throughout the year, including themed activities for visitors who can enjoy walks and activities with a British Sign Language interpreter and a visual describer.

The first sensory awareness day, on March 27 between 11am and 4pm, will have a bird theme and will include a guided tour of the zoo’s bird exhibits, a chance to meet the keeper who will talk about bird calls and worm handling.

The second sensory awareness day will take place on Friday July 30 and has an amphibian and reptile theme. The day will include a guided tour of the zoo’s amphibian and reptile exhibits, a chance to meet the keeper, handling of snakes, stick insects, and snails, experience of a crocodile or komodo dragon feed and own time for visitors to explore the rest of the zoo.

The third event will take place on September 18 and has a mammals theme. The day will include a guided tour of the zoo’s mammal exhibits, a chance to meet the keeper of the bat twilight zone, experience a mammal feed, and a chance to explore the rest of the attractions.

The fourth and final sensory awareness day will take place on December 5 and has a Christmas theme. The day will include a guided tour of the zoo, a chance to meet Zoo staff, a ride on the Monorail and free time to enjoy the zoo’s Christmas offering as well as a chance to explore on your own.
