CHESTER bank workers have triumphed in a national competition to raise as much money as possible for youth charity The Prince’s Trust.

A team from Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) business and commercial banking in the North West raised more than £66,393 to win The Prince’s Trust Million Makers challenge.

The team, who are made up of staff from Chester, Manchester, Wigan, Bolton, Preston, Nantwich and Lancaster, embarked on a series of events over a nine month period to raise the cash which will go to help thousands of young people into business on The Prince’s Trust business programme.

‘Back to business’ was the team’s most popular event, which saw RBS and NatWest staff spend a day working for their customers in return for a donation to the trust.

Dozens of staff participated in the event and carried out tasks ranging from milking cows and working in a turkey processing plant, to helping run a hotel and undertaking civil engineering site inspections.

“The Prince’s Trust is absolutely thrilled that these companies have raised more than £600,000 to change young lives across the UK,” said Jackie Tyler, regional director North West, The Prince’s Trust.

“One in five young people are currently struggling to find a job. These fundraising efforts are more important than ever to help young people into jobs across the UK.”

Paul Telfer, RBS North West team leader, commented: “Million Makers is a great way for businesses to compete against each other to raise much needed funds for the Prince’s Trust. As the money goes towards helping local youngsters in the North West it was a real privilege to be involved. This has been a true team effort and could not have been achieved without the support of many RBS staff and customers in the region.”
