IF you are hankering after the true taste of India you won’t go wrong if you head for the Chester Tandoori.
Admittedly, through the years, this hidden gem, tucked away on the sidelines of the city centre, has proved a bit of a favourite of mine, but if I thought it couldn’t get any better, I was soon to be proved wrong.
It had been a few years since my last visit, and what with a complete refurbishment and revamped menu to boot in the offering, I decided it was high time I gave it a try.
Once inside, my partner and I were greeted warmly by the staff and quickly shown to our seats, where we enjoyed a drink whilst perusing the menu.
Within a few short minutes we were handed a plate of poppadums and rich sauces whilst we continued viewing the menu before taking in the sleek and modern new look restaurant, completed with comfortable furniture and natural decor.
It wasn’t long before the restaurant began to fill up and it was heart warming to see each guest was treated to the same warm welcome on arrival.
It was clear the staff pride themselves in customer care and set out to see each of their guests is comfortable and well looked after.
After a lot of perusing what is now a wide and varied menu, which has been extended to include various seafood and vegetarian dishes, we placed our order, but not before we were asked if we would like more drinks.
We didn’t have to wait too long before we were served with our starters; a generous portion of shish kebab for me and a more than ample portion of onion bhajis for my partner, so ample in fact he struggled to finish the starters, keen not to miss out on the main course.
We had just about the right amount of time for our starters to settle before the main courses arrived: a chicken tikka mossala for me (yes I know, not as adventurous as I perhaps could have been but this dish is my ultimate favourite and I was certain I wasn’t going to be dissapointed.
Each mouthful of the chunky, tenderly cooked chicken melted in the mouth and with just one mouthful i was instantly reminded as to why I would return here time and time again.
My partner opted for the lamb bhuna, and again every mouthful melted in the mouth.
The flavours were absolutely delicious.
Of course, an Indian meal is not the same without naan bread and we both opted for the keema naan to share, a succulent meat-filled bread, soft and delightful to taste.
The portion was extremely sizeable.
Both of us were, without question, to full to sample desert but we had a browse through the list of mouthwatering puddings, a must most definitely for next time.
As we left we bid a warm farewell, with a promise to return in the not to distant future.
