A TERRIFIED woman was beaten up and robbed by a man wearing a Scream-style horror mask on Halloween.

A 23-year-old woman was walking down an alleyway on Saturday, October 31, at about 7.15pm, when she was approached by the masked robber.

The man, who was wearing the sinister disguise and a dark tracksuit top and trousers, attempted to grab a purse from the woman’s hand.

When she refused to let go, he attacked her and ran off with her purse.

Police say that the woman was left ‘extremely shaken-up’ by the incident and suffered minor injuries from the assault.

She was taken to hospital for treatment, but was later discharged.

Police are now on the hunt for the man, who is believed to be about 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build. The incident happened in an alleyway near Holly Road, Ellesmere Port and the attacker ran off in the direction of Cambridge Road.

Witnesses or anyone with more information, or who may know the identity of the man, are being urged to contact Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000 or the Crimestoppers hotline anonymously on 0800 555111.

* The distinctive Scream style mask was made famous by the 1996 horror movie Scream directed by Wes Craven. Filmed mostly in Santa Rosa, California, the film tells the story of the fictional town Woodsboro, CA, being terrorised by a masked killer who enjoys tormenting his victims with phone calls and movie references.
