AS FOOTBALL’S transfer window closes, Chester FC have announced a new signing which they hope will hit the spot with fans.

To celebrate Non-League Day on Saturday the club will launch its own pie at the Swansway Chester Stadium.

Club caterers Dougherty and Allen have taken on board feedback on matchday catering – particularly in the kiosks – and are aiming to provide a pie that will whet the appetite of fans.

The Cheshire chicken and ham pie will be homemade and available in all the kiosks and Blues Bar priced £2.50 or a meal deal including a hot drink is £3.

To also mark the day, a number of community groups have been invited to the stadium to help showcase their work.

At half-time during the Cheshire derby with Macclesfield Town (kick-off 3pm), invited groups will join together to walk a lap of the pitch.

This will is an opportunity for deserving groups to hold banners, carry balloons and hand out leaflets highlighting their work.

As guests of the Chester FC Community Trust (CFCCT), the aim is to provide Community Programmes under the umbrella of four main themes – sports coaching, education, health and wellbeing and social inclusion.

Trust CEO Jon McCarthy, who is also the club’s assistant manager, said: “We understand the power football has within our culture to affect change and recognise the responsibility that our club has within the community.

“CFCCT is under new leadership and would like to develop relationships and partnerships with the organisations that already provide outstanding contributions for the people of Chester.”

Non-League Day is held each year on a weekend when there are no Premier League or Championship matches due to the international break.

The Blues Bar will have a happy hour-and-a-half, running from noon to 1.30pm with lager and draught bitter at £2 a pint and Guinness and cider at £2.50 a pint.

The pre-match carvery will return in the Legends Lounge.

The cost is £30, or £15 upgrade to season ticket holders.

It includes Legends Lounge hospitality, a pre match question and answer session with a member of the playing squad, the man of the match presentation and a carvery.
