A WOMAN has told a court semi-naked and nude pictures found in an alleged paedophile’s home were of her when she was aged under 16.

The witness was the third alleged victim to give evidence in the trial of Ramsey Ramsey, 79, former manager at the Bombay Palace restaurant on Upper Northgate Street, Chester.

She said Ramsey had taken the indecent photographs of her in his home in Grange Road, Newton.

Ramsey is accused at Chester Crown Court of 37 sexual offences against five girls under 16 in the 1980s and 1990s. He denies any wrongdoing.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also told the court explicit letters found in Ramsey’s home were written when she was in school.

Extracts read out included letters which started with “My darling Ramsey” and were signed off with “lots of sex”.

Prosecutor John Wyn Williams handed the letters and photographs to the witness and she confirmed she had written the letters and appeared in five of the six photographs. She said she did not know who was in the sixth picture.

The woman told the jury she first met Ramsey aged about 11 when she went to the library. She said she would walk past the Bombay Palace and he would be outside smoking a cigar and he would ask which books she had.

She said about a year later a friend took her to meet Ramsey because she said he would take them out and buy cigarettes and alcohol for them.

The woman said after getting the cigarettes and alcohol she would sit in Ramsey’s car in a car park across the road from the Bombay Palace.

Eventually she and a friend were taken to his flat on the Promenade, Southport, and allowed to smoke and drink there.

Mr Williams asked how that made the woman felt. She replied: “I thought I was a big girl·”

After a short while, the woman said, Ramsey would take one of the girls downstairs to a room outside of his flat where there was a bed and no windows.

She said she was made to undress by Ramsey who then massaged her and raped her. She said this happened a number of times when they went to Southport and he would always take the girls down one after the other.

The victim also described other sexual assaults and rapes by Ramsey in his car in quiet laybys near Mollington.

She said: “The first time it happened I was really scared. I respected him and I thought he loved and cared for me so I would have done anything for him.”

Mr Williams asked how she felt looking back. She said: “Ashamed of myself. I feel shame because I was not smart enough to know what was happening to me. I know it wasn’t my fault because I was a child but I still feel shame.”

The witness also said she was used as a “child prostitute” by Ramsey, who gave her £40 for sleeping with two other men at a house in Saltney, one of whom Ramsey said was a Lebanese prince.

The woman said she only told her husband about the assaults when she started having nightmares. The woman did not go to the police but they contacted her when they identified her from evidence in Ramsey’s home.

She said: “If they [the police] had not found me I probably would have carried this to the grave.

“I had it drilled into me by Ramsey that nothing should be mentioned to anyone or that it was my fault. I was always scared of someone finding out. I thought I would get into trouble.”

Simon Mills, defending, said the woman was of concern to social services staff when she was younger.

Mr Mills said the woman was using drugs and was involved in drug dealing in the city and Ramsey knew this and had gone to social services to explain his worries.

The witness said she did use drugs at the time but said Ramsey had given her speed and cannabis. She denied dealing drugs.

Mr Mills said Ramsey had never had any sexual contact with the woman but had taken her to Southport so she could go swimming with her friends and took them to a fair.

The woman agreed he had taken them to a fair and swimming but she was subjected to sexual abuse in return.
