A SINGLE mother said she was given just four days to pack up her 10-year-old hair salon after the building was taken over by a new leaseholder.

Faith Taylor, 45, had built up her business, Miss Molly’s, at the LA Fitness gym on Wrexham Road, Chester, bringing in 400 customers a month to the site.

At the end of June it was announced that Nuffield Health would take over the lease of the building from August 16.

But Miss Taylor, who lives in Saltney, said she was never told she would have to pack up her business, despite asking Nuffield several times to clarify her

position.

She told the Leader a company representative finally told her on Monday she had until tomorrow to vacate the unit.

Miss Taylor said: “I’ve had my livelihood taken away from me. That salon has supported me and my daughter for the last 10 years.

“It’s a well-established salon and they’ve just left me in limbo for months.

“I was basically just forgotten and made to feel invisible.”

She said Nuffield bosses had originally told her they had not realised there was a salon in the building.

“That really hurt,” said Miss Taylor, who has had to store all her salon equipment in the conservatory.

“I bring in around 400 people a month through those doors.

“Last Monday I phoned Nuffield and asked if they knew what was going on as I had customers booked in.

“They said they’d let me know by Friday evening but I heard nothing.

“Then on Monday they called at 4.30pm and said it’s not in their policy to have self-employed hairdressers in their properties and I had to leave at the end of the week.

“I thought ‘why didn't you tell me that before?’”

A spokesman for Nuffield Health said all staff at LA Fitness had been offered jobs with Nuffield, but confirmed contracts with private businesses had not been

renewed.

“We understand this is an upsetting situation for Miss Taylor,” she said.

“All third parties were served notice by LA Fitness when they closed the gym, as this is who their agreement was with.

“We have informed third party providers that we will not be issuing new contracts.”

The gym is due to reopen on Saturday, August 23.

Miss Taylor said she was currently looking for alternative premises and is urging her customers to call her on 07725 464929.
