HUNDREDS of people turned out to help raise more than £2,000 for a little girl who may have only a few months to live.

Rugby League club Chester Gladiators helped stage a fun day and touch rugby tournament to support Amelia Rose Hill and her family at The Cheshire County Sports Club in Upton.

Although the final amount raised has still be to confirmed, organisers have already counted £2,275 which is more than double the original target.

There was a feast of fun for the whole family with a barbecue, bouncy castle, pony rides, face-painting, live music, DJ, hair chalking, cake stalls, hook-a-duck, stocks, inflatable sumo wrestling, raffles, name-a-bear and other attractions.

Ten teams took part in a touch rugby tournament with Winnington Park RFC, Liverpool City RL, Eccleston Lions RLFC, Wrexham RUFC and Chester RUFC all represented along with teams from Chester Gladiators.

Amelia, whose dad, Andy, has played for Chester Gladiators since 2009, was born in October 2012 with a rare heart condition and underwent a series of operations to correct the problem. But this month her dad Andy and Amelia’s mum, Zoe, received the heartbreaking news that her problem had deteriorated and there was nothing more the doctors could do.

Andy and Zoe, who live in Northwich, are hoping to take Amelia on special trips over the next few months and create memories that will last forever and the money raised on Sunday will help them do this.

Chester Gladiators chairman Jim Green said: “It was a wonderful afternoon and we are absolutely overwhelmed.

“We raised far more than we could have ever anticipated and it was a privilege to be surrounded by so many generous, kind-hearted and caring people.

“There are far too many people to thank individually but on behalf of our club and all involved, we would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped.
