A MOTHER-of-two claims she had a clump of hair ripped from her head during an unprovoked attack in a family pub in Chester.

Amanda Evans, 39, had been enjoying a quiet drink with a pal in the Bear’s Paw in Newton when she was allegedly set upon by three middle-aged women.

She says she was punched repeatedly in the abdomen, leaving her in severe pain as she had previously had surgery to remove part of her bowel.

Amanda, of Plemstall Lane, Mickle Trafford, told the Leader the ordeal had left her confidence in tatters at a time when she is also awaiting cancer test results for a tumour on an ovary.

Police are investigating the incident which happened at about 11pm on Saturday and have taken witness statements from people including the pub’s manager. No one had been arrested or charged at the time of going to press.

Amanda said: “I daren’t go out now and my children, who are 17 and nine, stayed off school on Monday as they didn’t want to leave me alone. This was the last thing I needed as I wait for my test results too.

“I only moved to Chester recently and that pub is the only place I really go as I felt safe and was always made to feel welcome.”

She said the attack lasted about five minutes and left her with severe bruising.

“I was just sat there with my friend and the next thing I knew this group of women just jumped me and beat me up,” she said. “There was a disco going on at the time and everyone was enjoying themselves.”

An ambulance was called to the scene but Amanda chose to return home to her children – she only attended hospital when the pain became too much the following day.

Doctors told her she had no lasting damage, but had suffered internal bruising, she said.

A Cheshire Police spokesman last night said they were conducting interviews and an investigation was ongoing into the incident.
