CHESTER’S military museum will be staying open late later this month.

Cheshire Military Museum will extend its hours on Friday, May 16, for the annual UK-wide festival Museums at Night.

The event offers visitor a rare chance to enjoy the museum outside normal opening hours.

There will be fun activities, including drawing sessions, a trail, a chance to see some Great War artefacts from the museum archives and an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour.

Major Eddie Pickering, curator, said: “This is the first time we’ve taken part in Museums at Night and we are looking forward to welcoming visitors to this evening opening.

“It’s a great opportunity to see the museum at night, see areas not normally open to the public and also to learn about the soldiers of Cheshire and their many battles.”

The Museums at Night event opens at 6.30pm -8.30pm. No booking is required and normal admission charges apply.”

There will be a behind-the-scenes tour at 7pm and 8pm, providing access to areas not usually open to the public. Tours are limited to 10 people per tour, on a first-come first-served basis. The tour is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Museums at Night is Culture24's festival of inspiring after-hours cultural events at museums, galleries and heritage sites across the UK.

It runs from Thursday to Saturday, May 15-17.
