A CHESTER man will be completing a 1,000-mile endurance ride to raise money for the Poppy Appeal.

Michael Wright, 52, of Newton Park, Chester, will be hoping to complete the Royal British Legion Riders (RBLR)1000 motorcycle ride in June, to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.

For the RBLR1000 challenge riders will depart from Squire’s Café, a bikers’ hotspot in Leeds, and head off on one of four routes, two north, two south, to complete a circuit ending back at Squire’s.

Michael said: “I have been thinking about doing this ride for a few years and being the anniversary of the First World War, I thought this was the ideal opportunity and I have been visiting a lot of battlefields this year.

“I have been doing some work with Airbus and trying to get them involved. We set up the North Wales Poppy Appeal from outside the Airbus site.”

Riders will be hoping to complete the challenge in less than 24 hours.

As the challenge is an endurance riders are not to complete the challenge in under 17 hours as this would mean breaking the average speed limits.

To make sure riders comply with the timings they have to visit checkpoints along the route where they will get a card stamped or a receipt. This will also encourage riders to take regular rests throughout the day.

The RBL1000 will take place on June 21, the longest day of the year, with riders setting off  after 6am.

Anyone wanting to donate money to Michael’s RBLR1000 ride can visit his just giving page: http://www.justgiving.com/michael-wright33.

All money raised will go to the Royal British Legion.
