THE Inspector in charge of Chester’s Outer Neighbourhood Policing team has left after being promoted.

Inspector Kevin Chambers will take on the role of a detective inspector at Cheshire Police headquarters in Winsford from today after two years with the Chester outer team.

Replacing him will be Brian Green who was formally Inspector at Ellesmere Port Policing Team and was once a sergeant on the Outer team.

Insp Chambers said he is proud of the work his team carried out while he has been on the Outer team and under his watch anti-social behaviour in the city’s suburbs had fallen. He also praised the community for helping the police tackle the problem and said: “When I first arrived we had a problem with anti-social behaviour. We worked really effectively with local residents and community groups and we have built relationships with the community so we can ask them what they want from their police.

“We have reduced the problem by doing diversion activities which we put on every school holiday which has reduced the problem over the last four years.

“We have had great support for that from the local councillors who have given money from their budgets to help fund these projects.”

Another area Insp Chambers has tackled head on is drug crime. He said he as especially proud of the headway made in Blacon, which included the force’s first closure of a crackhouse.

Insp Chambers has also tried to tackle bike thefts by running a large micro-chipping campaign and he has also increased the use of social media by the team by encouraging officers to use Twitter when possible.

He added: “I’m proud of the day to day staff. It is a high demand area, as are any cities, and I am sad to go.

“It is one of those jobs where I have not worked as hard but I’ve never once looked at my watch in my eight hours every day.”
