CHESTER FC’s vice-chairman has issued a rallying call ahead of Saturday’s crunch match against Hyde United.

The fans-owned club currently sit just two points above the drop and with games rapidly running out Chester FC’s vice-chairman Steve Ashton asked for as many people as possible to get down to the Swansway Chester Stadium to roar on the Blues.

He said: “We need everyone to get down there on Saturday and roar the team on because it is a big game.

“We only have five matches to go and three home games so we need to make sure we stay in this league.

“Steve Burr and the lads need the support so we need to get as many there as possible.”

Chester’s next three home games will be vital if they are to secure Conference Premier football for next season with already-relegated Hyde visiting on Saturday, cross border rivals Wrexham visiting on April 19 and mid-table Salisbury City making the long trip north on the final day of the season on April 26.

Sandwiched inbetween are difficult trips to play off chasers Grimsby Town and Cambridge United.

Richard Bellis, co-editor of Chester FC fanzine The Blue & White, said all of the games to the end of the season are vital. He said: “Football is about big games and Saturday is a big game. It is do or die.

“Hopefully we can have a happy ending. Hyde are in poor form so we are the favourites for it.

“We are then onto the Wrexham game which is massive. We always want to beat the rivals and they don’t have anything to play for but we do.

“Hopefully by the last game we will be safe but it could come down to the wire. They are three great home games with lots of interest and excitement. It is a shame it is not at the top of the table but we are where we are and all the games are massive at this stage.”
