CHESTER’S first ever wine market is being staged as part of the city’s second annual wine festival.

The event will be held at The Ring O’ Bells in Christleton on Saturday, March 22, from 10.30am until 3pm, when local suppliers will be selling wines not available in stores.

Festival organiser Tracey Thomas said: “This is one of many wine events scheduled for this weekend which also includes a tour of Chester’s very own vineyard at Carden Park and a black tie dinner with wine courses on Saturday evening at the aBode Hotel.”

There is a wide range of special events lined up for the city’s wine lovers to enjoy during the four-day event.

Places on everything from the tasting sessions to the special dinners are going well, according to the organiser, Tracey Thomas of women’s group thisladyloves.com.

The festival, sponsored by the aBode Hotel and the Leader’s sister paper the Chester Standard, started yesterday with a launch event at the aBode Hotel.

Wine lovers can taste their way around the world at the festival and can enjoy a diverse range of workshops and promotions in venues across the city. There will also be the chance to sample and buy from the country’s top merchants.

Some of the more unusual attractions include Civil War pub tours when costumed guides will recreate the drama of the time. Yesterday The Chez Jules in Northgate Street arranged a special three- course dinner which included information about pairing wines with different foods.

Chester Wine School is holding a one-day class on Saturday, for £85 per person, when wine lovers can taste 12 great wines from the city’s wine suppliers and learn how wine and food pairing works, with a delicious three course Michael Caines lunch.

The event will be held in The Paddock Room at the aBode Hotel and includes learning the basics of wine tasting.

There’s also the chance to discover the story behind one of most northern vineyards in the UK at Carden Park Hotel, Golf Resort and Spa are produced each year.

The From Vine To Wine vineyard talk and lunch on Saturday costs £40 per person.

Other events include afternoon tea and fizz at the Ring O’ Bells in Christleton; a selection of wines at special festival prices at the Convivio Bar and Restaurant in Grosvenor Street; a cheeseboard and wine for two at The Commercial Hotel in St Peter’s Courtyard; a selection of wines at festival prices at Townhouse in Watergate Street; group wine tasting sessions at Bianca Trading in Mollington as well as workshops, tastings and a trade show.
