A DESIGNER has taken London Fashion Week by storm in a new role as judge and ambassador for Britain’s Top Designer.
Matthew O’Brien, 23, from Chester, was a judge for Britain’s Top Designer at London Fashion Week last month with the final taking place at the Grand Connaught Rooms in Holborn, London.
Matthew also took to the catwalk with a special show of his autumn collection.
Entering fashion at just 15, Matthew started his first clothing label in his bedroom.
It led to him being dubbed ‘The Boy in the Bedroom’ by press.
The label called Mang was an instant success, bringing in sponsorship deals with international pro wakeboarders to exclusive nightclubs along with the Cheshire Jets basketball team.
Originally he focused on menswear and was able to develop his design aesthetic before he started making womenswear – a field in which he was able to excel.
His passion and determination have landed him many accolades, most recently Britain’s Top Designer 2012-13.
Matthew’s designs have a strong eye for detail and focus on structure and shape, along with the use of unconventional fabrics.
He also takes a keen interest in print design and his latest collection exhibits sharp monochrome prints with highlights of colour, against the sharp angular forms created on the body.
Matthew has been recognised by Vogue Italia as a talent to watch and the year ahead looks like it will be a big one for Matthew with a number of projects and TV work in the pipeline to expose his label on the world stage.
