LARGE parts of Grosvenor Park are closed due to the upgrading of pathways.

A number of Leader readers contacted us to express concerns that the park was largely shut.

But Cheshire West and Chester Council says the restrictions are  necessary due to health and safety concerns while the pathways in the park are improved. It said the large scale closure was happening on weekdays.

The only sections of the park currently open during weekdays are the main entrance, the miniature railway and the area of the park which contains the play area.

Council spokesman Laura Johnson said: “The south side of the park by Dee Lane and down to the river will reopen on March 7 and the western side the Quarry grounds events area, will be open at the end of March.

“Up until now, we have been able to only close sections of the park during the upgrade but due to health and safety reasons while we are working on pathways, we have had to close larger sections.

“This is only during the week however and at the weekend the access points are open.”
