ONLOOKERS stared on in amazement after a car ploughed through the front window of a takeaway.

Two people were treated by paramedics after a black Peugeot careered into the fried chicken shop in Upton.

An eyewitness said staff looked ‘visibly shaken’ at the Rooster @ 86 fried chicken shop on Weston Grove, Upton.

Emergency service vehicles descended on the scene after the smash, which happened at around 4.20pm on Saturday.

It is not thought there were any serious injuries.

A witness who lives near the outlet said it looked as though the car may have accidentally been put into the wrong gear before it smashed through the restaurant’s frontage.

“The car lunged across the pavement and through the glass front windows and into the shop,” he said.

“Roosters was open at the time. It was not clear if anyone was seated in the dining area at the front of the takeaway, but staff appeared visibly shaken at the scene.”

The man, who asked not to be named, said fire engines, ambulances and at least six police cars attended and Weston Grove was closed while the vehicle was removed.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service firefighters assisted paramedics with two people who were inside the vehicle, but were not trapped.

The area remained cordoned off throughout Saturday.

Cheshire Police have not released any details about how the incident happened.

The eyewitness added: “We arrived just as police were closing the road, I saw one man being stretchered away.

“I think the manager was inside but it didn’t look like anyone was seriously hurt.”

There was no structural damage to the premises, which had been covered up by a wooden board on Sunday. No one from the Rooster @ 86 was available for comment.
