A CHESTER man has worked tirelessly to build a Lego model of the city’s world-famous Rows.

The creator, who wishes to remain anonymous but holds a popular account on the social networking website Twitter, used more than 1,000 bricks and took several weeks to complete his masterpiece.

The grand design incorporates detailed interiors of shops and offices. Describing himself as a keen Lego enthusiast, the man said he modelled the section of Rows on Bridge Street and part of Eastgate Street.

He said: “It is not exactly true to life, more of a montage of the Rows. It started because I had a cityscape set and I thought I would try to make it into something which people would recognise and I’ve just kept making it bigger and bigger.

“I’ve made a few of my favourite shops like Roly’s Fudge and Triactive and I’ve also tried to make a few of the characters around Chester as well – so I made a Roman soldier from the tours, the balloon man, the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress [Cllr Jill Houlbrook and Rachel Walker], who have both seen their figures and said they loved them.”

The Twitter account now has more than 6,000 followers and regular updates are tweeted about how the Lego creation is going.

“I’m going to have a little break from Lego for a while but the next thing to do would be to make the Eastgate Clock,” said the model-maker.

“It is so iconic in Chester I’ve got to do it. It will be hard, making curved surfaces out of bricks always is but I’m sure I can do it.”

It would be nice to see something like the train station and the various buildings and businesses on city road made into lego
