A CHESTER writer’s play about the band Joy Division will be performed in Manchester.

Writer Brian Gorman’s play, New Dawn Fades, will be performed in the city that the play focuses around.

Educated at Chester College, Gorman went on to work at Chester Gateway Theatre and is currently working on a graphic novel adaptation of the film, Vendetta, which will star Eastenders actor Danny Dyer.

New Dawn Fades follows the story of a band and takes a look at the history of one of the world’s first major industrial cities and four relatively ordinary people who managed to emerge from the cityscape and form one of the world’s most iconic and influential bands.

The play doesn’t just focus on telling the history of Joy Division and their transformation into New Order, following enigmatic lead singer Ian Curtis’s death in 1980.

It also takes a look at the history of the city of Manchester and Salford and how the band tell the story of the city.

Taking a look back into history, the play features many real-life characters including the Roman general Julius Agricola, who built the foundations of the city and Dr John Dee, an adviser to Queen Elizabeth I.

New Dawn Fades, has been specifically produced by Brian Gorman and Neil Bell for EAT Theatre and was previously in Manchester for the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival in July last year.

The production can be seen on Saturday, March 8 at 8pm. Tickets cost £15 and £10 for concessions.

They can be purchased from The Dancehouse Theatre Box Office or calling 0161 237 9753 or emailing boxoffice@thedancehouse.co.uk
