RESIDENTS will be able to pose questions to Cheshire West and Chester Council’s executive members about their budget proposals in an online event.

On Wednesday the webcast hosted by former BBC political commentator Jim Hancock goes live at 6.40pm on www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.

Following an introduction from the council’s chief executive, Steve Robinson, Mr Hancock will ask the five council directors about their visions for the future of their services and there will also be questions from the people watching the webcast.

Viewers will be asked for more questions to be put to members of the executive, who will answer them live on air.

The event will last until about 9pm and in the final stages people will be able to vote online on council priorities.

A consultation document with details of the draft budget proposals has been published on the council’s website, with hard copies available from libraries and other council buildings.

People can also take part in the consultation by completing the feedback form included with the consultation document either online or by sending their comments to the Research and Intelligence Team, Cheshire West and Chester Council, Goldsmith House, Hamilton Place, Chester CH1 1SE. The closing date for feedback is February 9.

The council needs to make further savings of £49 million over the next three years.

It has achieved ongoing savings of £113 million a year and £44million of this has been reinvested into priority services, leaving a net saving of £69 million for tax payers – the equivalent of £629 on Band D homes.
