A CHESTER University student who flipped his car while three times over the drink-drive limit has been banned from driving for three years.

Julian Moore, 23, of the High Street, Tattenhall, pleaded guilty to drink-driving at West Cheshire Magistrates Court.

The court heard that police were called to the A41 at Hatton Heath at about 1am on November 2 last year after reports of a crash and they found a Ford Fiesta on its side with no one inside it and the keys still in the ignition.

The car had extensive damage and both air bags had gone off.

A short while later a male was detained on the A41 by Waverton after a female called the police looking for her brother who she said had been in a crash.

The court heard Moore was covered in mud and told police he had drunk a bottle of Frosty Jacks cider before crashing the car.

During interview, Moore said he had an argument with a friend at his address in Hoole when drinking with friends and tried to drive back to his family home because he was angry.

He said he lost control of the vehicle and clipped a kerb, causing it to tip onto its side. Moore said he left the car and tried to walk home across a field.

The court heard he had a previous conviction for drink driving when he was a minor in 2008.

Steve Coupe, defending, said Moore was in second year of university studying information systems management and had recently been diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum.

Mr Coupe said this meant Moore did not cope with the situation well which led him to make the poor decision to try and drive home.

Magistrates fined Moore £110, ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge. Magistrates also banned him from driving for three years.
