A MAN allegedly slapped his girlfriend’s face before reversing a car wheel over her leg, a court heard.
Simon John Watkinson is alleged to have carried out the attack in October in Ellesmere Port, where it is also claimed he made threats to his partner Sarah Halfpenny.
Watkinson, 34, denied assault, and driving a vehicle while being unfit through drugs when he appeared before West Cheshire Magistrates in Chester.
The case was sent for trial at Chester Crown Court, where Watkinson will attend on May 13 for a plea and case management hearing.
Lionel Cope, prosecuting, outlined details of the alleged incident before the court.
He told the court the alleged victim had been in a relationship with Watkinson, who is from Eton Court, Carriage Drive, Hartford, Northwich.
Mr Cope said Watkinson’s background with drugs had previously caused problems in the relationship and how on the day of the alleged incidents,on October 21, the couple had spent time with friends in Ellesmere Port.
Mr Cope said:”At around 4am the couple got in to their vehicle.
“The defendant wanted cigarettes and a dispute occurred on the way to the service station, culminating in the defendant slapping Miss Halfpenny to the face.
“Later Watkinson told her to get out of the car, which she did and then he pulled alongside her and told her to get back in.
“She says Watkinson then instructed her to find a needle for drugs, and he then put his arms around her head and made threats to take her to an area where no-one would see her again. Miss Halfpenny says the defendant also said he would set fire to her father’s house and smash windows and then spat in her face.
“She says Watkinson then reversed the car and the wheel of the car ran over her leg causing her immense pain, then he drove off leaving her in the road.”
Watkinson denies the allegations and his case was committed to Chester Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing on May 13. He was granted bail until his appearance before Chester Crown Court.
