GYMNASTS at a Chester school are celebrating after picking up eight medals, including overall winner, at a Chester and district  competition.

Year 8 pupils at Abbey Gate College entered the annual Chester and District Gymnastics Competition which is for pupils who have never taken part in a gymnastics competition before.

The Year 8 team consisted of Pair 1: Laura Cameron and Grace Patton and Pair 2:  Heather Churchill Evans and Zoe McDonnell with six schools from the Chester and District cluster entering the competition, meaning 12 pairs of girls competed on the floor and 24 girls on the vault apparatus.

The Abbey Gate girls did fantastically well in the competition this year with Laura and Grace coming second on the floor.

The vault saw Laura Cameron come third with a score of 9.35 for her ‘round off’ and Grace Patton come second with a score of 9.45 for her ‘round off’.

Although Zoe and Heather didn’t receive a place on the podium for their floor routine or vault, they did exceptionally well, contributing to the overall team score enabling it to finish in first place overall.
