A RESTAURANT has been named as one of the top 10 eateries in the UK by a food website.
Upstairs at the Grill, on Watergate Street, was voted seventh by users of the food review website, toptable.co.uk, appearing alongside celebrity chefs Gordon Ramsey and Heston Blumenthal’s restaurants in the celebrated list.
The restaurant’s appearance in the Top 100 Best Restaurants in the UK list, run by the website, placed them as the best performing establishment in the north, with five of the top seven based in London.
Jennie Grimes, marketing manager at Upstairs at the Grill said: “Everyone associated with the restaurant is absolutely made up with this news.
“It is testament to the hard work that goes in to making sure diners have a memorable experience with us.
“Everyone works so hard – from the owners, to those in the kitchen, to our waiters and waitresses. They all play a huge part in our success.
“This news can only be a good thing for the Chester. We have seen this list appear in foreign newspapers and webistes in places such as India and Germany.
“Any positive publicity we can create for the city is great.”
There was a double celebration for the owners of the restaurant, with its sister restaurant, Hickory’s, based at The Groves, also appearing in the top 100 – the only Chester restaurants to do so.
“It is a great achievement,” said Jennie. “As I said, a lot of hard work goes in behind the scenes and it is great to see the hard work pay off.
“To have two restaurants in the top 100, especially when you consider the competition from the likes of London, is just fantastic.
“We are all very proud.”
The annual Diners' Choice Awards for the Top 100 Best Restaurants in the UK are generated from more than 340,000 reviews collected from verified toptable diners between November 14, 2012 and November 15, 2013.
