HUNDREDS of people braved the wet and windy weather to watch the Winter Watch Parade make its way through Chester on Thursday evening.
Crowds lined the streets as the procession made its way from the Forum Shopping Centre, down St Werburgh’s Street to the Cross, down Bridge Street and back to the Forum.
Onlookers were kept entertained by dance performances, fire breathing and sword fights in Eastgate Street and the Town Hall Square while samba dancers, jesters, unicorns and dragons joined shoppers on the city streets.
Due to the severe weather conditions that had seen the riverside flooded, organisers of the event had considered cancelling the parade but, as the weather eased, the decision to go ahead was given the green light.
Charlene Harston, from the Roman Tours, said: “It seemed to go well despite the weather. There were a lot of visitors to Chester who were really impressed – if a little bemused – at the beginning
“It had stopped raining thankfully so they still managed to do the full parade which only got the final go-ahead at 5.30pm.
“Everyone seemed to really like our undead Romans. We also had a bear with us this year which people liked going up to and hugging.
“The streets were lined most of the way.”
