A HAIRDRESSER has been recognised as a cut above the rest after picking up one of the industry’s highest accolades.

Damien Roberts, 28, who works at Denise Juke Hairdressers on Frodsham Street, Chester, was named as a Master Colour Expert by Wella at a glitzy event in Manchester.

The award, the highest available in hair colouring, sees Damien, who lives in Handbridge, among a small group of elite colourists nationwide.

“I’ve been working towards this for quite some time and I was absolutely made up to get it,” said Damien.

“For me personally, it is a massive boost to my career and will open up  a lot of opportunities. To be recognised as one of the best in the country at what you do is an excellent feeling – and a real sense of achievement.

“It wasn’t an easy task to get this and it’s something that I put everything into.”

The accolade marks the highest point so far of Damien’s  career, but it could have all been very different had he stuck to his original career path that he had planned.

“I wanted to be a graphic designer but there were no places on the course that I wanted to study and I needed to get a job,” said Damien.

“I was walking down the street, decided to pop in to a hairdressers and see if they had any work going and the rest is history.

“I’ve been working in the industry ever since.

“That was 11 years ago and I’m delighted with how things have turned out for me. I’m now able to pass my knlowledge and expertise on to other staff coming through, and that is something  I love.

“I never really had my heart set on this profession or had even given it much thought prior to me stepping through the door. I’m so glad that I did though.”
