SIXTY new jobs have arrived in Chester thanks to the opening of a new facility by a city employer.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch, the owners of Chester-based MBNA credit card business, have opened a global command centre at their Chester Business Park base.

As well as bringing employment to the area, the new facility will provide extra monitoring and resiliency capabilities for the company’s technology and operations systems infrastructure around the world.

The centre will monitor the health of Bank of America’s global infrastructure environment and co-ordinate the company’s response to events to aid the delivery of best service for its customers and clients.

Cllr Stuart Parker, Cheshire West and Chester Council Executive Member for Culture and Economy, who attended an event to mark the opening, said: “We are so pleased to be celebrating with Bank of America. It is such a prestigious name to be linked to our borough.

“We were delighted to welcome them when they first arrived. We are even more proud of the relationship we have developed over 20 years.

“The opening of the new technical and operations centre is testimony to the strength of the economy of Chester.

“The 60 new jobs is brilliant news for local employment and creates fantastic opportunities for local people.”

The new jobs will complement Bank of America’s global command centres in Richmond, USA, and Singapore.

Alex Wilmot-Sitwell, president of Bank of America Merrill Lynch for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said: “This is an investment that could have been made in a number of locations around the world, so I am delighted we have been able to secure it for Chester, and, with it, a further 60 jobs.

“As a global company, we have employees, contractors and suppliers where we can best support our customers and clients around the world. Global staffing helps strengthen our business and enable operations in all time zones for our global clients.”
