A THIEF wrestled a police officer to the floor before he was arrested for stealing from a convenience store in Chester.
Daniel Wills, 22, stole beer and packs of chicken from McColls on Brook Lane, Newton, and ran out of the store and onto the cycle path nearby.
West Cheshire Magistrates Court was told police officers gave chase and caught up with Willis.
But Willis then got on top of the police officer and pinned him to the ground, kicking and screaming as he did so.
Prosecutor Lionel Cope said the officer managed to call for back up and Wills was eventually restrained.
Mr Cope said Wills had gone in to the McColls store on September 7 and asked the assistants if they had any sandwiches before making off with the two packs of chicken and a crate of Stella lager in total worth £14.74.
Wills, of Roodee House, Grosvenor Street, admitted theft and resisting arrest.
He was sentenced to a 12- month community order with 12 months supervision. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
