A DRUNK man from Ellesmere Port threatened to blow up his girlfriend’s car before kicking and punching the vehicle in a jealous rage, a court heard.
Ian Stewart Ross, 31, drank a bottle of vodka and some beers before going on the rampage at the home of his former girlfriend Leanne Pearson on August 25.
Two days earlier the couple had decided to take a break from their relationship of several years, leading Ross to lose control and begin banging on her door and punching fence posts.
Ross, of Luton Road, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage when he appeared at West Cheshire Magistrates’ Court.
Lionel Cope, prosecuting, told the court that Ross had sent Miss Pearson text messages about the hurt he was feeling during the break in their relationship.
Mr Cope said Miss Pearson was in bed when she was woken by the defendant throwing stones at her bedroom window sometime between 1am and 2am on August 25
Mr Cope said: “Mr Ross shouted at her ‘who are you sleeping with’ before punching and kicking at her door, telling her ‘I am going to blow your car up’.
“Miss Pearson went downstairs and followed Mr Ross who proceeded to punch and kick the windows and wing mirrors of Miss Pearson’s car. He then proceeded to punch the fence panels at her address.”
Police arrived soon after and arrested Ross. He admitted everything when interviewed, telling police he was intoxicated and had been in a temper.
Ross represented himself and told the court he had acted in a “moment of madness”.
He said: “I realise what I did was wrong and I am sorry. I was hurt at the break up of my relationship.”
Magistrates fined Ross £135 and ordered him to pay £85 costs along £150 in compensation to Miss Pearson and a £20 victim surcharge.
