CHANGES for people wanting to go on the housing list in the borough or for those who have specific housing queries come into force from October 1.
That is the date when Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) will become responsible for the administration of Choice Based Lettings and the housing register.
Trust Homechoice will continue to operate and customers can contact the council for queries about the housing register or Choice Based Lettings.
The service will be integrated with the housing solutions team and will be able to offer advice and assistance on a range of housing options.
Weaver Vale Housing Trust and Chester and District Housing Trust will continue to allocate and manage their properties as will Plus Dane Group for council properties in the Ellesmere Port and Neston area.
From October 1, the trust homechoice allocations policy will also change and this will affect the majority of people who are registered for social housing.
The revised policy has been developed in partnership with Chester and District Housing Trust, Plus Dane Group and Weaver Vale Housing Trust and sets out the priorities for allocating homes in the borough.
There are currently more than 19,000 people registered for housing but last year only 1,200 properties were available to let.
Changes to the policy will restrict access to the housing register and move away from allowing anyone to register. The council claim this will give more realistic prospects for those who need social housing.
Cllr Herbert Manley, executive member for growth and innovation said: “The new policy will benefit local people in greatest need of social housing and ensures the limited social housing stock that is available in the borough, is allocated fairly and objectively to those in greatest housing need.
“Customers will find an enhanced and integrated service with a new website where they will be able to apply and update their applications.
“Existing customers will receive a letter, detailing how to access their online application.”
