WEDDING cakes can be pricey but any bride wanting this diamond-encrusted masterpiece on her big day will need to fork out more than £32 million.
Husband and wife Tim and Jules Smith, who own Chester-based CAKE, teamed up with luxury jewellers Russell and Case to make the world’s most expensive wedding cake.
The six-tier creation is 1.5metres tall and has been decorated with more than 4,000 diamonds, making it the most expensive wedding cake ever.
The cake has been created for The National Gay Wedding Show next month and is currently being held under tight security.
“Wedding cakes are a big part of our business but this cake is very special,” said Tim, who set up the City Road businesses with his wife seven years ago.
“It was idea we have been kicking around for a while and when the opportunity came along we said ‘we want to do this’.
“All credit goes to Jules. She’s very talented and she is the artistic one who comes up with the designs.”
The cake, which has been valued at £32,400,000, will be on show on March 3 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool during the show.
“We do lots of weddings and with all the stuff that is happening with gay weddings at the moment, it is great we have been able to get on board like this,” said Tim.
“We are going to be at the show and the cake will be there too.
“It is very topical and it’s great to think we have done something that is a world record; it’s a bit of fun and you look it at like that.
“The cake has gone global overnight. We have had interested from all over Europe and America and lots of people have got in touch on Twitter to say how much they love it.”
